Washington, DC— Today, Rep. Ron Kind, along with Members of Congress on both sides of the aisle, voted for articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump following his incitement of a violent mob attack at the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021.

“Last Wednesday was a dark day in our nation’s history. After months of peddling the Big Lie that a free and fair election he lost was stolen from him, President Trump incited a violent insurrection in an attempt to overturn the will of the voters,” said Rep. Ron Kind. “Five people died as a result of this attack—including a United States Capitol Police officer. It’s critical that everyone involved in this unprecedented assault on our democracy is held accountable, including President Trump. I have repeatedly called on the President to step down for the sake of our nation. I have asked Vice President Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment to ensure the peaceful transfer of power. Unfortunately, these calls have gone unheeded, leaving me no other option than to vote to impeach President Trump. We must guard against any potential future danger the President poses, send a clear message that this type of unconstitutional behavior will not and never will be tolerated, and restore the sanity and sense of calm the American people deserve before the inauguration of President-Elect Biden.”

On January 12, Rep. Kind voted for a resolution calling on Vice President Pence to use his powers under the 25th Amendment to convene and mobilize the principal officers of the executive departments in the Cabinet and remove President Trump from office. Since the events of January 6, Rep. Kind has called on President Trump to step down and for Vice President Pence to serve the remainder of the term.
