“I know that AmeriCorps volunteers are making a difference in our community in many ways. I am pleased to hear that Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin and the Greater Milwaukee Foundation will be receiving federal funding to help them host AmeriCorps volunteers as they do amazing work on the ground to serve our communities. I am a former VISTA (Volunteers in Service To America) volunteer and AmeriCorps is near and dear to my heart because I know the power of its impact on our most vulnerable, which is why I am proud to announce additional funding to support more volunteers to help address pressing needs in my community,” said Congresswoman Moore.
“Thank you to Congresswoman Moore for being a tireless advocate for Wisconsin. Being awarded the AmeriCorps Vista position will help increase our capacity to serve our community while also providing the opportunity to learn about the vital role we all play in addressing poverty and ensuring members of our local communities have the opportunity to thrive,” Patti Habeck, Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin President and CEO.
“Through the years, AmeriCorps VISTA members have made remarkable contributions to Milwaukee Succeeds and the Greater Milwaukee Foundation. Their enthusiasm, dedication and skill have added new dimensions to our culture, improved our work and heightened our connections to the community,” said Danae Davis, Executive Director of Milwaukee Succeeds. “We are grateful to again be awarded the honor of hosting VISTA service members this year and look forward to how we will learn from one another and, together, improve outcomes for young people in Milwaukee.”
AmeriCorps VISTA members serve full-time for 1 full year at a community organization, such as a nonprofit, faith-based organization, college or university, local government agency, and more, on anti-poverty projects across the country. AmeriCorps VISTA members serve on projects that build the capacity of their organization.
