Today, Congresswoman Moore led her colleagues in sending a letter to Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo and United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai expressing concern regarding the potential escalation of a trade dispute with the European Union that would negatively impact Harley-Davidson. The letter calls for the Administration to act to prevent further escalation and to find a permanent solution that addresses the concerns of affected stakeholders’ dispute.

“Milwaukee is home to Harley-Davidson, the iconic American motorcycle manufacturer, which has a footprint across the nation. Harley provides good jobs in our communities that are threatened by this ongoing dispute. We are asking the Administration to work with the European Union to prevent an escalation, find a lasting solution that addresses the concerns of all parties,” said Congresswoman Moore.

In response to this letter, Harley-Davidson Chief Executive Jochen Zeitz provided the following statement:

“On behalf of Harley-Davidson employees in our factories and across our business and dealer network – we thank these Members of Congress for standing with us. As Harley-Davidson continues its mission, including investing in American jobs, ingenuity, and innovation, it remains clear that motorcycles have no place in this trade war.”

“This ongoing dispute threatens Wisconsin manufacturers and small businesses at a time when many are still recovering from the economic damage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Congressman Ron Kind (WI-03). “It’s critical that the Administration works closely with our allies to remove these harmful tariffs and find a lasting solution that sets Wisconsin farmers, workers, and businesses up for success.”

“Harley-Davidson provides family-supporting jobs for many in Southeast Wisconsin. The ongoing trade retaliation by the European Union harms Wisconsin workers, jobs, and our manufacturing industry. The Biden Administration must make resolving this dispute a top priority. Wisconsin continues to reap the benefits of enacting free, fair, and reciprocal trade agreements like USMCA. I urge the Biden Administration to build on this success and support hardworking Wisconsinites,” said Congressman Bryan Steil (WI-01).
