WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congressman Bryan Steil (WI-01) released a statement following the reintroduction of Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“The dangerous agenda coming from the Biden Administration and congressional Democrats should be alarming to Wisconsin workers and families. From killing the Keystone XL Pipeline and threatening America’s energy independence to now reintroducing the Green New Deal, President Biden and congressional Democrats continue pushing job-killing policies. The Green New Deal would especially harm manufacturing in Wisconsin, punish our dairy industry, and increase costs on families. As we have continuously seen from the far-left, the Green New Deal is another attempt at a federal takeover of our economy. We must focus on creating jobs and reopening our economy, not imposing unrealistic, anti-agriculture, anti-job mandates that spend trillions of dollars we don’t have,” said Steil.

According to a study from the Wisconsin institute for Law and Liberty, the Green New Deal would cost the average Wisconsin household $40,000 each year and cost $2.5 billion to Wisconsin’s dairy industry as a result of burdensome regulations. In 2019, the U.S. Senate took a procedural vote on its Green New Deal Resolution, which failed by a vote of 57-0, with 43 Democrats voting present, refusing to put their name on the record.

On his first day in office, President Biden laid off Wisconsin workers and hindered the United States’ ability to be energy independent by killing the Keystone XL Pipeline.
