WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Bryan Steil (WI-01) led Republicans on the Select Committee on Economic Disparity and Fairness in Growth during a field hearing in Lorain, Ohio entitled “Renewing Prosperity in the Industrial Heartland: An Economic Agenda for Forgotten Communities.” During the hearing,  Steil focused on the impact of current economic trends on midwestern manufacturing communities and policies that will strengthen our supply chains and manufacturing industries across the United States.

“Communities in Wisconsin are struggling to cope with our challenging economic situation right now. Rising inflation for necessities like food and energy, tight supply chains, and shortages, including skilled worker shortages, are hitting family budgets. Too often, policymakers and newsmakers in Washington overlook or ignore what is happening in the Midwest. Wisconsin has long been a leader for American manufacturing and our workers can compete with anyone in the world, if given a fair shake. Unfortunately, proposals to raise taxes on American production or block private sector investments in infrastructure lead us in the wrong direction. I am eager to work with my colleagues on this Committee to create policies that will support southeast Wisconsin workers and families.

Background:

Congressman Bryan Steil serves as the Ranking Member of the Select Committee on Economic Disparity and Fairness in Growth. The Select Committee is a new committee in the House of Representatives created this year.  Earlier this month, Representative Bryan Steil was appointed by House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy to serve as the top ranking Republican on the Committee.

In appointing Steil to serve as Ranking Member, House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy stated “Bryan Steil is the ideal member to serve as the House Republican representative on this select committee. He has spent his entire Congressional career identifying innovative solutions to growing jobs and creating opportunities, which included authoring the Expanding Investment in Small Businesses Act, legislation that helps small business owners hire workers and create jobs. I know that Bryan will use his vast experience and passion to ensure we are passing the right economic policies that will help our families achieve economic prosperity.”
