PECATONICA, Wis. — Pecatonica Area School District Superintendent and candidate for Wisconsin State Superintendent Jill Underly announced today she has received the endorsement of three former candidates in the race including Sheila Briggs, Troy Gunderson, and Steve Krull. Jill Underly advanced to the General Election Tuesday as the top vote getter among the seven candidates on the primary ballot.

“Jill will be a fierce champion for public education in Wisconsin,” said assistant state superintendent Sheila Briggs. “She will fight for high-quality early childhood education for all kids. Her experience running a rural school district will ensure our rural communities will also get the support and the resources they need.”

“Wisconsin needs a voice that will unite the state around our public schools and I am confident Jill can be that voice. She is a tremendous educator, leader, and friend,” said Troy Gunderson, an adjunct professor at Viterbo University. “I am enthusiastically endorsing her candidacy for the general election and encourage all of my supporters in this primary to vote for her on April 6th.”

“Jill served as an educator, administrator, former DPI employee, and is currently working as a superintendent during this pandemic. These experiences have prepared her for this moment and she will make an amazing state superintendent,” said Steve Krull, a principal in Milwaukee Public Schools. “I also endorse Jill because she has a lifelong history of supporting public education and is committed to ensuring every Wisconsin child, regardless of zip code, has what they need to be successful.”

“This has been a tremendous week for our kids, who deserve an advocate at the highest level of our education system who is committed to educational equity and investment in every student,” said Dr. Underly. “I am grateful for Sheila, Troy, and Steve’s support and their confidence in my leadership as we make our case to the people of Wisconsin.”
