UW Health Accountable Care Organization (ACO) continues to show how value-based care can deliver remarkable outcomes while also saving money for patients and Medicare.
Recently released data from Medicare’s Next Generation ACO Model for calendar year 2020 show UW Health ACO earned $8.8 million in shared savings for strong quality and financial performance.
This is the fourth consecutive year that UW Health ACO has earned shared savings in Medicare ACO models. In addition to reducing total cost of care for its ACO beneficiaries, UW Health ACO was also successful in maintaining high quality care, earning a 97% quality score for its 2020 performance.
UW Health ACO’s success in the Next Generation ACO Model is a result of significant investments in the design, implementation and ongoing expansion of an innovative value-based care model that aims to meet the unique needs of patients experiencing complex medical and psychosocial issues. This includes programs such as RN Care Coordination and Home-Based Primary Care.

UW Health ACO is a partnership between UW Health, UnityPoint Health-Meriter and the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. As one of Wisconsin’s first ACOs, UW Health ACO participated in the Medicare Shared Savings Program from 2013-2017, before entering the Next Generation ACO Model in 2018.
