MADISON, Wis. – Reports have surfaced of scam phone calls made using a UW Health phone number.
Late Wednesday, UW Health was notified that people were receiving calls in the Milwaukee and Oklahoma areas from a number that appeared to be from UW Health, with the caller asking for personal information, insurance information and Medicare information.
Never give out personal information such as account numbers, Social Security numbers, mother’s maiden names, passwords or other identifying information in response to unexpected calls or if you are at all suspicious, according to security experts.
UW Health would never call and ask for personal or health information over the phone. If you do get an unexpected call from a supposed company or government agency asking for personal information, experts recommend hanging up and calling the number of the organization found online, or on materials like an account statement, to confirm the request is genuine.
If you feel you have been the victim of one of these calls, please alert your local law enforcement.
