MADISON, WI – The Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association (WCMA) today applauded an announcement from Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers, State Senator Brad Pfaff (D-Onalaska), and State Representative Dave Considine (D-Baraboo) introducing a package of bills designed to boost the state’s agricultural community. Their plans include a new, $20 million dollar investment in the Food Security Initiative, a program which provided much-needed support to dairy farmers and processors amid pandemic market disruptions, helping hunger relief organizations purchase their nutritious, locally made milk, butter, yogurt, and cheese.
WCMA Senior Director of Programs & Policy Rebekah Sweeney released this statement, following Governor Evers’ announcement:
“The food supply chain remains volatile as we navigate another national wave of COVID-19 infections. Additional funding for the successful Food Security Initiative would offer a welcome layer of stability to the marketplace. We thank Governor Evers for championing this cause, and for his continued commitment to strengthening Wisconsin’s dairy industry.
“Dairy processors welcome every opportunity to partner with leaders in the hunger relief community to aid our food-insecure neighbors, and we urge lawmakers to act quickly to approve legislation that will help address urgent, essential needs.”
