The Wisconsin Education Association Council (WEAC), the state’s largest union of educators, recommends Dr. Jill Underly for the Superintendent of Public Instruction.
WEAC’s recommendation, based on feedback from public school educators across Wisconsin, is based on Underly’s decades-long perspective as a teacher and school leader.
“Dr. Underly has committed to repairing or replacing the school funding formula so it is equitable to all students regardless of their ZIP code,” said WEAC President Ron Martin. “WEAC educator-members, our political action committee and our board of directors stand with Dr. Underly as the next Wisconsin State Superintendent.”
Underly’s comprehensive plan to recover from the pandemic takes into account equity, school funding and more. Underly’s top priorities as State Superintendent include:
- Early childhood education and universal 4K access;
- Teacher recruitment and retention;
- Mental health and health supports;
- School funding formula revision; and
- Facilities improvement; particularly infrastructure and HVAC in aging buildings.
