MADISON – Wisconsin’s State Supreme Court made the decision to take a “least changes” stance on the required redistricting of electoral maps – a move that risks another decade of disenfranchisement across the state.

Executive Director Kerry Schumann had this to say about the decision:

“By deciding to take a ‘least changes’ approach to redistricting, the Wisconsin State Supreme Court is choosing to elevate partisanship over representative government. The current maps were created in 2010 under hyper-partisan conditions and do not represent the will of the people.

Wisconsinites have real and urgent needs that, under a least changes approach, will go unmet because decisions are being made based on political partisanship. The current maps were made to retain power at any cost for one political party.

The fight for fair maps is not over. This is yet another roadblock in the path to a better Wisconsin brought to you by dark money and partisan extremism. Wisconsin folks overwhelmingly support fair maps.”
