MADISON – On Tuesday, February 9, Wisconsin Farm Bureau submitted testimony to the Wisconsin Senate Committee on Agriculture and Tourism in support of three food labeling bills related to truth in labeling of milk, meat and dairy products.

Senate Bills 8182 and 83 relate to truthful labeling of dairy products, meat and milk respectively.

“The purpose for bringing these bills before the Wisconsin legislature is to recognize the value of the trust our farmers have spent years building in the marketplace and join other states whose food producers also rely on the accepted terminology in the markets,” said WFBF Senior Director of Governmental Relations Debi Towns.

A national research study found that plant-based products labeled with dairy terms such as “cheese” led one-quarter of participants to believe the product contained milk.

“We would like Wisconsin agriculture to be positioned to join with those who stand to protect the food markets we have worked so hard to establish,” Towns added.

WFBF will continue to engage in discussions surrounding truthful labeling of milk, meat and dairy products. A full copy of the testimony submitted by WFBF can be read here.
