Madison, Wis. — Almost a week after Ron Johnson’s most recent tax scandal showed he paid only $2,105 in state income taxes in 2017, despite reporting nearly half a million dollars in income, Johnson refuses to be transparent with Wisconsinites. This is not Johnson’s first tax scandal. Johnson changed language in the 2017 tax bill that benefited himself, his big-money donors, and his special interest friends. Here are four questions Johnson needs to answer:

  1. Will Johnson release detailed information on his 2017 state taxes to explain why he  only paid $2,105 in state income taxes?
  2. Did Ron Johnson personally cut his own taxes when he helped write the 2017 tax bill?
  3. Did Johnson use his inside knowledge about the 2017 tax bill and the fact that many deductions were going away in 2018 to take advantage of the system?
  4. What does Ron Johnson say to all the hard working Wisconsinites who made a tenth of what he did and paid more in state taxes?

“Ron Johnson has spent the past eleven years in DC putting himself ahead of what is best for Wisconsin. It’s time that Johnson give Wisconsinites the answers they deserve about his tax scandal and how he’s used his position to benefit himself,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Senate Communications Advisor Philip Shulman said.
