MADISON, Wis. — This week is the anniversary of the disastrous Republican-led 2017 tax bill that put more money into the pockets of the GOP’s wealthy donors. Kleefisch praised the GOP’s tax scam, which increased the federal deficit by $1.9 trillion, primarily benefited the wealthy and big corporations, and helped widen the wealth gap.

It’s no surprise that Kleefisch supported this ludicrous tax giveaway that widened the deficit and failed to deliver for the middle class. As lieutenant governor, Kleefisch was a champion of tax cuts that disproportionately benefited the wealthy. Wisconsin Department of Revenue data showed that millionaires, who represented the top .2% of all tax filers, received 78% of the benefits from just one Walker-Kleefisch administration tax giveaway.

Kleefisch even told wealthy donors and business executives, behind closed doors, we want to know how we can love you more.” It’s pretty clear that she does not care about building opportunities for Wisconsinites — she only cares about lining the pockets of the wealthy and boosting her own political profile.

While Rebecca Kleefisch and the GOP left the middle class behind, Governor Evers has delivered for hard working Wisconsin families. His 2021 budget alone provided more than $2 billion in individual income tax relief for Wisconsinites — newly providing relief to more than 1.6 million taxpayers in the state. Along with prior reductions, the governor is not only delivering on his promise to cut taxes for middle-class families by 10 percent, he is cutting middle-class income taxes by 15 percent.

“Radical Rebecca Kleefisch said it herself, she just wants to know how she can love wealthy donors and Republican insiders more,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Rapid Response Director Kayla Anderson. “Wisconsin needs a leader who prioritizes putting money back into the hands of hardworking Wisconsinites, not their rich donors. The contrast is clear — Governor Evers has delivered on his promise to reduce the tax burden on middle-class families, and will continue to fight for everyday Wisconsinites.”
