Madison, Wis. –– Today, Wisconsin students thanked President Biden, Governor Evers, and Democrats in Congress for leading Wisconsin through the COVID-19 pandemic. Across the state, Wisconsin teens took to social media to send videos thanking President Biden for helping them get back on track, acknowledging the importance of returning to in-person education and highlighting the success of Democrats’ American Rescue Plan.

“President Biden understood that the first step in getting kids back into schools was to get COVID-19 under control—and thanks to his leadership, students across Wisconsin are getting back on track,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Rapid Response Director Julia Hamelburg. “Throughout the pandemic, the Biden administration has worked hand-in-hand with Gov. Evers to increase vaccine supply and expand vaccination sites. And now, millions in Wisconsin are vaccinated, COVID-19 cases are declining, and folks across our state are feeling a sense of normalcy returning. Students across our state won’t soon forget that it’s all thanks to President Biden and Democrats—and no thanks to a single Republican in Congress.”

Thanks to President Biden and Governor Evers’ leadership, in Wisconsin:

  • Average COVID-19 cases have declined to the lowest mark since early spring 2020
  • Hospitalizations from COVID-19 are at its lowest rate since the start of the pandemic
  • More than 5.3 million doses of the vaccine have been administered throughout the state and Wisconsin has become a national leader in vaccine distribution

Here’s what students from across the state are saying about President Biden’s pandemic response:

Eliza, High School Senior (Madison, WI):

“I want to thank Gov. Evers and President Biden … Thanks to their leadership, my whole family has been able to get fully vaccinated, I’ve been able to play almost a full season with my lacrosse team, and next week I’m going to see my grandparents—who I haven’t seen in over a year.

Henry, High School Sophomore (Maribel, WI):

“This past year, due to failed leadership from Republicans at the state and national level, I, as a high school and middle school student, missed a lot of opportunities … I didn’t get to have an in-person eighth grade graduation and I missed closure there, I didn’t get to say goodbye to my teachers, my friends, and that chapter of my life. Thanks to the leadership from our President, I can now say that I could attend my friend’s in-person graduation and congratulate them.”

Nama, High School Senior (Madison, WI):

“I wanted to take this opportunity to thank Democrats, Governor Evers, and President Biden for all the hard work that they’ve been putting into controlling the pandemic and distributing vaccines across the country and Wisconsin. Because of them, my whole family has been able to get vaccinated and we’ve been able to visit close family friends that we haven’t been able to see in the past year, and I’ve been able to hang out with my vaccinated friends, which has been great.”

Ethan, High School Senior (Walworth, WI):

“I’d like to thank President Joe Biden and Governor Tony Evers for their work during the coronavirus pandemic. Thanks to them I’ve been able to get fully vaccinated and can feel safer returning to work.”

Simon, High School Junior (Madison, WI):

“This year I’m feeling ready to make plans and move forward with my life after the COVID-19 pandemic. I feel optimistic and prepared. Thank you President Biden, thank you Governor Evers, and thank you Democrats.”
