MADISON, Wis. — Today, after the United States House of Representatives passed President Biden’s Build Back Better Act, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler released the following statement:
“When Wisconsin elected President Biden to the White House, he made a promise to deliver for Wisconsin’s middle-class families — and the Build Back Better Act delivers on that promise. In every corner of the state, Wisconsin families will benefit from lower health care costs and tax cuts for working families, the creation of good-paying jobs, and investments in local economies that will help the entire state build back better. This historic funding from the White House and Congress builds on Governor Evers’ investments in education and his tax cut for middle-class Wisconsinites.
“These unparalleled investments will do so much to improve the lives of Americans across the country — and it’s exactly the type of legislation that Wisconsinites voted for when they took to the polls to elect President Biden. The United States Senate should move quickly to get this transformative legislation across the finish line so we can continue building back better.”
The Build Back Better Act will deliver for Wisconsin by:
- Providing access to child care for 359,321 young children per year from families earning under 2.5 times the Wisconsin median income, and ensuring these families pay no more than 7% of their income on child care.
- Expanding access to free, high-quality preschool to more than 84,748 additional 3- and 4-year-olds per year and increasing the quality of preschool for children who are already enrolled.
- Setting the United States on course to meet its climate targets in the next decade — in a way that creates good-paying union jobs, grows domestic industries, and advances environmental justice.
- Closing the Medicaid coverage gap to help millions of Americans gain health insurance, extending the American Rescue Plan’s health insurance premium reductions for those who buy coverage on their own, and helping older Americans access affordable hearing care by expanding Medicare.
- Extending President Biden’s Child Tax Credit payments, which provide payments of $300/month per child under 6 and $250/month per child over 6.
- Providing a tax cut of up to $1,500 for 304,000 low-wage workers in Wisconsin by extending the American Rescue Plan’s Earned Income Tax Credit expansion.
