MADISON, Wis. — Earlier today, Rep. Greta Neubauer and state Senators LaTonya Johnson and Jeff Smith joined WisDems Chair Ben Wikler to discuss how President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Governor Evers’ investments in infrastructure will benefit their local communities, including repairing bridges and roads, improving public transit, and bridging the digital divide by increasing access to high-speed internet. “As families reunite during the holiday season, Americans will be traveling our roads and using the internet more than ever to connect to their loved ones. Senate Democratic Caucus Chair, State Senator Jeff Smith (D-Brunswick): “Governor Evers promised to fix Wisconsin’s aging infrastructure when he was elected, and he’s made historic investments to meet that promise… Between 2019 and 2020 alone there were repairs made to over 1,000 miles of highway and more than 800 bridges have repairs completed or underway. Repairs have been made in virtually every corner of the state and Wisconsin’s roads are ranked 8th in the nation.”
State Senator LaTonya Johnson (D-Milwaukee): “Just this week, we heard that Wisconsin will receive $142 million in 2022 from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to remove lead pipes across the state. And as someone who lives in the City of Milwaukee and is part of that 77,000 homes with lead pipes, I know just how important this is to our community and to the children who live in those communities… Clean drinking water is a right that every Wisconsinite deserves — to walk to their tap, to turn on that faucet, and get a glass of drinking water that will be safe and healthy for their family.” State Representative Greta Neubauer (D-Racine): “Here in Wisconsin, Governor Evers knows that connecting our communities and small businesses with high-speed broadband is critical for creating opportunities across Wisconsin.
