MADISON, Wis. — Today, as WisDems celebrate Labor Day and honor American workers, elected officials, and labor leaders released the following statements thanking President Biden for his economic recovery.

This celebration comes backed by independent projections from the CBO, the IMF, the Federal Reserve, the World Bank, and the OECD — which all forecast that this year, America will reach the highest levels of growth in nearly four decades. In addition, the economy has grown at a 6.4% annualized rate so far this year — far higher than forecasters had predicted at the end of last year.

Democratic leaders released the following statements:

Democratic Party Chair of Wisconsin Ben Wikler:

“No one knows more about grit than Wisconsin’s working families. The past year has seen unprecedented challenges, and Wisconsin workers remained resilient through it all. Thanks to the tireless work of Senator Baldwin and Reps. Moore, Kind, and Pocan, Congress passed President Biden’s American Rescue Plan, which put checks directly into workers’ pockets, as well as supporting employers and our economy as a whole. We need to continue to advocate for Wisconsin’s workers by passing President Biden’s Build Back Better agenda, to ensure that workers have better wages, better hours, and better representation — and pass the PRO Act to undo the damage inflicted by anti-worker Republicans over decades. Here in Wisconsin, Governor Evers is a stalwart champion of workers and the right to organize and collectively bargain. Democrats at every level — from our President to our Governor to local elected officials and grassroots activists — will never stop fighting shoulder to shoulder with our brothers and sisters in the labor movement, who built the great American middle class.”

Stephanie Bloomingdale, president of the Wisconsin AFL-CIO:

“At the heart of Labor Day is a commitment to bettering the lives of American workers. In his many years of service, President Biden has lived that commitment, and from his first day in the Oval Office has worked to address the country’s current economic crisis by passing the American Rescue Plan. This landmark legislation provided critical pandemic relief to small businesses and families across the state, with Governor Evers allocating billions in federal relief to support industries impacted by the pandemic. With a jobs president like Joe Biden in office, our country has seen unprecedented  job growth as millions of Americans head back to work — and he’s only just getting started.”

State Rep. Supreme Moore Omokunde (AD-17):

“As we celebrate Labor Day this year, Congress is on the cusp of passing a once-in-a-generation infrastructure deal centered on helping American workers. President Biden’s infrastructure deal, a cornerstone of his Build Back Better agenda, will benefit every community in Wisconsin by investing billions of dollars into our communities and creating thousands of new jobs across the state. While Republicans in Wisconsin and in Washington continue to favor their wealthy donors and large corporations over workers and small businesses, Democrats are continuing to deliver for the Badger State.”
