MADISON, Wis. — Yesterday, during the first day of the WisDem’s 2021 Badger Bounceback Convention, Governor Tony Evers announced he will continue his service to the people of Wisconsin by seeking a second term in office. Not only has Gov. Evers led us through some of the toughest challenges we’ve ever faced, his bold solutions are going to make sure Wisconsin bounces back from the pandemic better than ever.

“Gov. Tony Evers jumped into his re-election bid Saturday by calling himself the state’s ‘real education governor’ and focusing on repairing roads, helping small businesses and making health care more affordable.
“Wisconsin, I’m in. I’m running for re-election. We’ve accomplished a lot in the last few years, but we’re just getting started,” Evers said at the state Democratic Party’s virtual convention.
“The first-term governor reminded his backers he’s using his powers to block Republicans who control the Legislature from restricting access to abortion, limiting opportunities to vote, and drawing congressional and legislative districts that favor their party in elections.
“’There’s a veto pen to protect and we’ve got bags to pack for (U.S. Sen.) Ron Johnson. So, holy mackerel, we’re going to need your help to get it done again in 2022,’ Evers said.”

“In an expected move, Gov. Tony Evers on Saturday announced his bid for reelection at his party’s annual convention online, officially kicking off a gubernatorial race that will put the state Democratic Party, emboldened by a recent presidential victory, to the test.
“The midterm elections about 1½ years away will present a significant challenge for the party, which will face the stark realities of off-year elections, when the party not in the White House tends to pick up seats.
“In announcing his bid for 2022, Evers coined himself ‘the real education governor’ and underscored the high stakes of the election, listing off a litany of Democratic priorities, such as protecting a woman’s right to an abortion, safeguarding protections for preexisting conditions in health care, acknowledging climate change and defending American democracy.
“Before winning election as governor, Evers served as the state superintendent and knocked former Republican Gov. Scott Walker for coining himself as a ‘pro-education governor’ during his unsuccessful reelection bid in 2018.”

“Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers made it official Saturday, announcing his bid for a second term in the battleground state where he stands as a Democratic check on the Republican-controlled state Legislature.
“Evers, 69, told The Associated Press in a Friday interview that he decided to run again because he has unfinished business and needs to remain able to stop Republicans through his veto powers, especially as they advocate for election law changes that would make it harder to vote absentee.
“‘Even though I haven’t played much hockey, I have come to appreciate the role of being a goalie,’ Evers told the AP.
“Evers announced his plans during the Wisconsin Democratic Convention, which was held virtually Saturday for a second year in a row.
“‘We have lots of work to do that the people of Wisconsin expect us to work on,’ Evers told the AP, citing Medicaid expansion, criminal justice reform, expanding education funding and creating an independent redistricting process.”
