Madison, Wis. –– According to this morning’s jobs report, the U.S. has added more than two million jobs since the start of the Biden administration. This announcement comes on the heels of yesterday’s Department of Labor report showing U.S. jobless claims dropped to a new pandemic-era low last week and is further proof that President Biden and Democrats are delivering for working Americans.

In the first four months of the Biden administration, unemployment claims are down 50 percent and over 60 percent of Americans have received at least one vaccine dose. In Wisconsin, the unemployment rate is three times better than in 2020 and last weekend marked the lowest number of hospitalizations due to COVID-19 since April 2, 2020, when the Wisconsin Hospital Association began recording hospitalizations.

As the Wisconsin economy continues to recover thanks to President Biden’s American Rescue Plan and the leadership of Governor Tony Evers, Republicans like Sen. Ron Johnson and Rep. Mike Gallagher must answer to their constituents for voting against a plan that put money in the pockets of millions of Wisconsinites.

In response to today’s news, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Rapid Response Director Julia Hamelburg released the following statement:

“This economic growth is a clear testament to the leadership of President Biden, Governor Evers, and Democrats in Congress. By passing the American Rescue Plan, Democrats have delivered direct payments to millions of Wisconsinites and helped more than 48 percent of the state get vaccinated—all despite Republican lawmakers voting against this critical relief.

“While today’s strong jobs report shows we’re on a clear path to recovering from this pandemic, there’s still more work to do. That’s why Republicans must work with Democrats in the House and Senate to pass President Biden’s American Jobs Plan and American Families Plan, which will create millions of good-paying jobs and invest in our country’s future.”
