MADISON, Wis. — Republicans on the Joint Finance Committee are at it again – refusing to fund common-sense, bipartisan solutions that would actually help Wisconsinites. This week, they blocked putting $15 million towards running Wisconsin’s unemployment system, as requested by Gov. Evers. Republicans also refused to pay for computer upgrades to the unemployment system back in May and have since complained about lags in the antiquated system.
On Wednesday, likely Republican gubernatorial candidate Rebecca Kleefisch complained about this exact issue, mere hours before Republicans failed to fund improvements to the unemployment system. Kleefisch and former Gov. Scott Walker put off improving the unemployment system during their administration, blatantly ignoring audits showing it needed upgrades.
“Republicans in the state legislature are once again failing Wisconsinites – refusing to fund important state services and holding back our economic recovery,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Rapid Response Director Kayla Anderson. “If Republicans like Rebecca Kleefisch are actually concerned about the well-being of the people in this state, they should encourage their colleagues to pass Gov. Evers’ Badger BounceBack agenda and stop slowing down our state’s recovery.”
