MADISON, Wis. –– In celebration of National Voter Registration Day, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler issued the following statement:
“The right to vote is sacred, but for far too long that right has been under assault by those who seek to keep millions of voters — especially voters of color, new Americans, voters with disabilities, and young people — from participating in our elections.
“With the freedom to vote under redoubled assault today by Republicans in Wisconsin, the Democratic Party of Wisconsin is fighting in every neighborhood across the state to ensure that every eligible Wisconsinite can practice their constitutional right to vote. WisDems are committed to electing voices who will advocate for the For the People Act, the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, and the Freedom to Vote Act of 2021 so that these constitutional rights are protected by law.
“That’s also why, from this day until Election Day, Wisconsin Democrats are working nonstop to register voters and educate them about what’s at stake in upcoming elections — and will continue to do everything we can to ensure that our state remains blue in 2021, 2022, and beyond.”
The Democratic Party of Wisconsin has made a six figure investment in voter protection efforts this year to fund full-time, year-round voter protection for the first time in our party’s history. Our program has focused on strengthening Wisconsin’s democracy from the ground up — by making information about how to register and vote easily accessible on our website vote.wisdems.org, to answering voters’ questions about how to make their voices heard on our year-round Voter Assistance Hotline (608-336-3232), to proactively reaching out to thousands of voters who had trouble registering and making sure they’re able to get registered.
The Democratic National Committee also announced a $25 million expansion of its ‘I Will Vote’ initiative to address and overcome efforts across the country to make voting more difficult and burdensome. The DNC investment will go to voter education, voter protection, targeted voter registration, and technology to make voting more accessible and to fight back against Republicans’ unprecedented voter suppression efforts in states like Wisconsin.
