Hi, this is State Senator Dan Feyen.

The University of Wisconsin System is one of the largest public higher-education systems in the country

with 13 four-year universities and more than 174,000 students enrolled from all over the world. Our UW-System is world-renowned for providing students with a top-notch education and I believe it is something we should all be proud of. But there is always room for improvement.

The admissions standards, especially at our flagship university UW-Madison, are extremely high but also seemingly shrouded in secrecy. If you scour the admissions standards on any one of the 13 university’s websites you will be hard pressed to find clear-cut standards and requirements for admission.

The application process to get into college is tedious and confusing leaving many students wondering where they stand.

That is why I authored Assembly Bill 984, legislation that will simply require all institutions that are part of the UW System to use objective criteria and to publish it on their respective websites.

Gaining admission to one of our public universities should be clear, transparent and objective; not left to the whims of university bureaucrats.
