Hi, this is State Representative Gary Hebl with this week’s Democratic Radio Address.

Many of our parents probably told us the same thing when we were trying to overcome a tricky obstacle, if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. It’s a phrase that teaches us perseverance and determination, and it’s something that my Democratic colleagues and I take to heart.

We are constantly looking for ways to work in a bipartisan manner with the Republicans who control the State Legislature. Democrats want to do whatever we can to help the people of our state  Unfortunately, Republicans have not been willing to partner in that. Recent increases in the cost of gasoline and diesel fuel highlight the difference in the two parties priorities.

Earlier this year, Governor Evers called a special session to give back a portion of our state’s historic surplus to help struggling families who are facing rapidly rising gas prices.  Unfortunately, Republicans gave no thought or consideration to that idea. Gaveling that special session in and out with no debate, just like they gaveled in and out all the other special sessions he has called.

Governor Evers could have thrown his hands up and blamed the Republicans, but no, he keeps trying.  He knows that the people of our state need whatever help they can get –which is why this week, he signed an executive order prohibiting price gouging of gasoline and diesel until December 1, 2022.

While Republicans choose to sit idly by, hoarding your money, Democrats are focused on listening to Wisconsin residents and fighting to address the challenges our state is facing.
