Recently, Governor Tony Evers signaled he might be supportive of temporarily suspending the state’s gas tax.

Wisconsin currently imposes a gas tax of 30.9 cents per gallon of gasoline sold.

In a desperate attempt to improve his support, the Governor is gaslighting the public with a so-called “gas tax holiday”. He’s failing to remember, just last year, he recommended raising the gas tax in Wisconsin by 20 percent and he wanted to tie that increase to inflation. Inflation is the worst it’s been in 41 years and gas prices have already climbed to new highs across the nation and here at home in Wisconsin. If Republicans hadn’t scrapped the Governor’s proposal, the gas tax would have soared, taking prices through the roof and further straining your wallet.

Energy independence is the only way to bring down prices at the pump. Suspending road funding and further delaying significant projects across the state is not the answer. A gas tax holiday is nothing more than an election year gimmick for a Governor worried about getting re-elected.
