I’m State Senator Joan Ballweg.

Governor Evers is out of touch with the financial realities that hard-working middle class families face every single day. Since 2020, the federal government has given billions of dollars to the state of Wisconsin in Covid relief money. Rather than work with the legislature to determine the most impactful way to disperse these funds, the Governor has determined that his opinion alone is more important than that of the 132 elected members of the State Legislature who hail from every corner of the state. He has decided to go on a spending spree, using your hard-earned federal tax dollars as handouts at a time when the cost of living is skyrocketing.

In case you missed it – last week the Wisconsin Department of Administration reported that the State of Wisconsin ended Fiscal Year 2022, with a record positive balance of $4.3 billion. Make no mistake, this isn’t thanks to Governor Evers or Legislative Democrats. They pushed last year for a biennial budget that would have raised taxes and fees by $1.5 billion. In stark contrast, the budget crafted and passed by our
Republican majority in the Legislature saved the average middle class family an average of $1,200 a year, saving taxpayers like you a total of $3.4 billion.

Governor Tony Evers doesn’t understand how difficult it is for average families to afford a sustainable lifestyle right now. The Republican majority does.
