MADISON — Today, AFSCME Council 32 announced it would endorse Lt. Governor and U.S. Senate candidate Mandela Barnes in the Democratic Senate primary. AFSCME Council 32 is a conglomerate of county, state, municipal, and private sector unions across Wisconsin.

“I’m so proud to receive the endorsement of AFSCME Council 32. Some of my proudest moments as an organizer and a state legislator were with the incredible members of AFSCME,” said Mandela Barnes. “We stood together to kick Scott Walker out of office in 2018, and we’re going to do it again with Ron Johnson. Fighting for strong unions means fighting for strong families and strong communities. And I will always, always stand with unions in that fight.”

“Mandela doesn’t just claim to hold pro-union values or to have our best interests at heart; he is a working-class man from a union family, born and raised in Wisconsin,” said Paul Spink, President of AFSCME Council 32. “ If elected, he will bring these perspectives to Washington and advocate for solutions in a way that only one who has endured these struggles truly can. These aren’t just talking points for him. This is who he is. A former AFSCME member himself, Mandela has fought side-by-side with workers for his entire life. He has always had our backs. It’s time for us to have his.”
