MADISON — Today, AFT Local 212 announced it would endorse Lt. Governor and U.S. Senate candidate Mandela Barnes in the Democratic Senate primary. AFT Local 212 represents the teachers, counselors and professional staff at the Milwaukee Area Technical College. This adds to a growing list of union endorsers for Mandela, including AFSCME Council 32 and a coalition of labor leaders from across the state.

“As the son of a teacher, I’m so proud to receive the endorsement of AFT Local 212. Our educators and technical college staff deserve so much more support than what they’re getting from Ron Johnson,” said Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes. “In the Senate I will always stand up for education and the right to organize, and I’m honored to have AFT Local 212 as partners in that fight.”

“Throughout his career, Mandela has proven his commitment to educators and organized labor,” said Steven Shea, COPE chair of AFT Local 212. “We know we can trust him to fight for unions in Washington because that’s what he’s done his entire career, from his days as a community organizer to the legislature and now as Lt. Governor. He helped us get rid of Scott Walker, and now we’re going to help him get rid of Ron Johnson once and for all.”
