Today, Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes, Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate released “Values,” a new ad highlighting Sen. Ron Johnson’s support for a national abortion ban and his cosponsorship of a bill that offers no exceptions for rape, incest, or the life of the woman. The ad is a part of a multi-million dollar ad campaign on broadcast, cable, and digital throughout the state.

Ron Johnson has worked against reproductive freedom throughout the course of his career in the Senate. He co-sponsored eight abortion bans, including ones that could jail doctors. One was a personhood bill that held no exceptions for rape, incest, or life of the woman.

Johnson also worked to confirm judges who want to ban abortion and restrict contraception and told people they “can move” if they don’t like the laws in their state. After Roe v. Wade was overturned, he said it was the “correct decision,” calling it “a victory.”

Read a transcript of the “Values” below.

“I’m Mandela Barnes and I approve this message.”

“How far will they go?”

“Extremist right wing politicians are trying to pass a permanent ban on abortions.”

“Taking away a woman’s freedom to choose and could even put a woman and her doctor in jail for it.”

“But they won’t stop there.”

“Ron Johnson cosponsored a bill that would have banned abortions with no exceptions for rape, incest, or the life of the woman.”

“And Johnson said if women don’t like their abortion laws, we can just move.”

“But it’s Ron Johnson who doesn’t belong in Wisconsin.”
