MADISON — Yesterday, Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes, Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate joined Oshkosh seniors for a rally slamming Ron Johnson for his threats against Social Security. Mandela, joined by Michael Bolton, a retired USW labor leader, spoke to a crowd whose livelihood is dependent on Social Security, emphasizing Johnson’s out-of-touch and self-serving agenda.

“So let me tell Senator Johnson this – for those of us living in reality and who weren’t handed a thriving business from their father in law, we need Social Security and Medicare, and you wanting to cut and gamble our well being is a dereliction of your duty as a Senator.” said Michael Bolton said during the event.

“We’re fighting to protect our hard earned benefits, the ones that our parents and grandparents have spent their entire lives paying into, “ said Mandela Barnes. “The ones that will allow every Wisconsinite to retire without worrying about putting food on the table or having to work beyond the retirement age.”

  • “We’re going to remind people that nobody is going to be left behind,” said Barnes to the crowd. “People like Ron Johnson, they’ve had their day. It’s our time now.”

  • Barnes also highlighted that he comes from the working class, which has been a staple point throughout his campaigning efforts.

  • “It doesn’t matter where you’re from,” added Barnes. “We have so much more in common than out-of-touch, self-serving millionaire politicians like Ron Johnson, and people like him do not get to write the rules because he does not understand what life is like for us.”
