MADISON, WI — Today, President Biden announced he will nominate Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to become the first Black woman to sit on the U.S. Supreme Court. In response, Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes, candidate for the U.S. Senate, released the following statement:

“Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is an exceedingly qualified nominee with the professional and the lived experiences necessary to sit on the Supreme Court. In order to have a court, and a government, that truly serves the American people, we need leaders at every level who understand the challenges we face firsthand. I’m thrilled to see President Biden making good on his promise to create a court system that looks and lives more like America. I look forward to reviewing Judge Jackson’s records on the issues that matter to people in Wisconsin and I expect the Senate to do its job by providing a fair, thoughtful, and swift confirmation process.”
