MADISON — Today, Mandela Barnes released his new policy agenda to combat the rising maternal mortality rate and provide support to Wisconsin mothers, especially within the Black community.

Mandela knows the importance of expanding health care for Wisconsin families and is focused on ensuring mothers have access to the postpartum care they need to decrease the maternal mortality rate crisis the United States is facing.

In the U.S. Senate, Mandela will:

  • Support the MOMMA’s Act
  • Cosponsor the Black Maternal Health ‘Momnibus’ Act
  • Push Wisconsin to fully adopt Medicaid expansion and adopt 12 months of postpartum care
  • Work across the aisle and support bipartisan legislation to decrease the maternal mortality rate

“For too long, Wisconsin mothers haven’t received the postpartum care they need,” said Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes, candidate for U.S. Senate. “We’ve seen the rise of maternal mortality rates and we need to do better for Wisconsin families. I promise to work across the aisle on bipartisan legislation with real solutions to support mothers in every corner of the state, especially in the Black community, where the rates are disproportionately higher than any other community.”
