MADISON — Today, new reporting found that Ron Johnson used his position in the Senate to cover for a pharmaceutical company accused of causing the opioid epidemic and accepted a campaign donation from them shortly thereafter.

In response, Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes, Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate released the following statement.

“The secret to getting Ron Johnson to advocate for your needs? Donate thousands of dollars to his campaign. Ron Johnson has spent his decade in Washington prioritizing whichever wealthy donors and corporations can write him the biggest checks instead of the working families he was elected to represent. Wisconsin deserves better than an out-of-touch, self-serving politician. In the Senate, I’ll never stop fighting to ensure every working Wisconsinite gets a fair shot.”

Ron Johnson has a long history of selling out Wisconsinites in favor of his large corporate donors. Earlier this year, Johnson justified sending 1,000 good-paying, family-sustaining jobs out of Wisconsin by claiming, “It’s not like we don’t have enough jobs here in Wisconsin.” Reporting later showed the company shipping jobs out of state, Oshkosh Corp., “ranks seventh among Johnson’s top career contributors.”
