MADISON, WI — Today marks the 49th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark decision in Roe v. Wade. In response, Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes made the following statement:

“This anniversary of Roe v. Wade comes as Republicans across the country continue to launch unprecedented attacks on the fundamental right to choose. Beyond the fact that the Republican party’s efforts to strip people of their rights is unconstitutional, it also subverts the will of the 70% of Americans who support Roe v. Wade. While this landmark decision has protected access to abortion in this country for nearly 50 years, Americans in Texas today find themselves essentially living in a post-Roe reality – one that many of us may soon face if we fail to take action. In the U.S. Senate, I’ll fight to end the filibuster and permanently make Roe v. Wade the law of the land.”
