HALES CORNERS— On Tuesday, the 32nd anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Paralympic Nordic Skiing gold medalist Jeff Pagels will be speaking at 2 pm at the fully wheelchair accessible home of LuAnn Bird, 84th Assembly District Candidate.

Jeff will talk about why he’s endorsing LuAnn for the Assembly and how his disability has not stopped him from doing the things he loves: skiing, fishing, and even climbing mountains.

Disability rights are personal for LuAnn and her husband Phil who was paralyzed in a construction accident just a few days before the ADA was signed into law. Bird is a champion for persons with disabilities and continues to work tirelessly to improve access. LuAnn was elected to her local school board where she worked to pass referendums that upgraded all school facilities in her district. And she has improved access to many other public facilities such as stores, restaurants and sports facilities.

Jeff is a delegate with United Spinal Advocacy Network which has members from across the country who push for federal legislation to help people with disabilities in every state. He is also on the board of directors of Adaptive Sportsman Inc., a group of people with disabilities who love to play outside. Jeff likes to fish, shoot, trap, and handcycle and is the author of Always Climb Higher.

RSVP by emailing birdforwi@gmail.com. The event will be held at 5155 Brandons Ct, Hales Corners, WI 53130 from 2-3 PM
