(Brown County, WI) – The Brown County Register of Deeds office on Tuesday, April 5th, 2022, recorded its three millionth real estate document.

The Register of Deeds office is responsible for the safe archival storage and convenient access to real estate and vital records. These include birth, death, marriage, divorce, domestic partnerships, military discharges, deeds, land contracts, mortgages, and certified survey maps.

“Our office typically records between 38,000 and 40,000 documents per year,” says Cheryl Berken, Brown County Register of Deeds. “However, the past two years have seen significant increases in the number of real estate documents we recorded which helped us reach this milestone.”

Utilizing optical imaging technology, the Register of Deeds office records all real estate documents into an electronic format for permanent storage and retrieval.

The office also works to implement statutory changes, system modernization, program and procedure evaluation and staff development to assure a high level of timely service for our citizens and customers.

The Register of Deeds Office Hours are:

Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Birth, Death, Marriage Copies 8:00 a.m. – 4:15 p.m.

Areas are open for public research by appointment 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Closed on major holidays.
