MILWAUKEE — Today, Senator Ron Johnson ramped up his ongoing attacks against the COVID-19 vaccine, asking in an interview with conservative Wisconsin radio host, Vicki McKenna, herself a vaccine skeptic, “Why do we think that we can create something better than God in terms of combatting disease?” In response to this statement from the senator, who was named in one of The Washington Post’s “biggest Pinocchios of 2021,” Dr. Ann Helms, a neurologist in Brookfield and the Wisconsin State Lead for the Committee to Protect Health Care, released the following statement:

“Ron Johnson’s latest comments on the vaccine are a slap in the face to health care workers across Wisconsin who continue to struggle to care for the overwhelming number of COVID-19 patients who refused to get vaccinated. The safe, effective vaccines have saved countless lives across Wisconsin, while so called ‘natural’ infection has killed over 10,000 of our fellow Wisconsinites and caused severe health problems for many more. Johnson’s promotion of getting sick instead of taking the highly effective vaccine is not only ridiculous, it’s downright deadly. His rejection of medicine and science clearly make him unfit for office.”
