Washington, D.C. – Today, Defend Democracy Project released a report on the actions MAGA Republicans have taken in August alone to promote political violence and work to overturn the will of the voters. From directing violence against law enforcement after a search warrant was executed at Trump’s home to running campaigns based on conspiracy theories and lies, MAGA Republicans showed they are still a threat to our democracy even without the January 6th hearings to baselessly attack.
“The threat of the former president and his allies did not end on January 6th,” said Defend Democracy Project Communications Director, Nicole Haley. “In this month alone, MAGA Republicans have directed violence against law enforcement, attempted to avoid accountability, and more. Our democracy is in danger because of them. They have set a dangerous precedent for elections in 2022, 2024, and beyond. Those who do not disavow these conspiracy theories and threats of violence are just as complicit as Donald Trump and his allies.”
