Today, Tim Michels is desperately trying to hide his radical stance on abortion by now suggesting he would sign an abortion ban with exceptions for rape and incest. But Michels has made it clear throughout his campaign that his real plan is to ban abortion without any exceptions for rape or incest.

In fact, earlier this month, Michels said“You’d be amazed at the people that have called me up … that said, ‘Tim, you have to soften your stance on abortion. You need to be for the exception of rape and incest as well’ … I’m not going to soften my stance on abortion.”

Michels has said he supports an “exact mirror” of Wisconsin’s 1849 law banning abortion without exceptions for rape or incest, which passed before women could vote and would throw doctors and nurses behind bars. He wouldn’t commit to protecting contraception and, in 2004, signed a pledge supporting a constitutional amendment that would have banned abortion nationwide and threatened the legality of contraception and in-vitro fertilization.

He’s also faced fire for using his family’s personal foundation to fund extreme anti-abortion and anti-LGBTQ+ groups that oppose all forms of contraception and IVF, support total abortion bans without any exceptions, and attack transgender children.

DGA Senior Communications Advisor Christina Amestoy said: “Tim Michels has said it himself, he supports a ban on abortion without exceptions for rape or incest — and he’s not softening his stance. Voters will see right through his craven attempt to hide his radical agenda.”
