The DGA-backed Alliance for Common Sense is launching a new TV ad to hold Tim Michels responsible for his backwards plan to ban abortion without exceptions for rape and incest and throw reproductive health care providers in jail.

Watch the 30-second ad, “1849,” here

The ad exposes Michels’ comments that he supports an “exact mirror” of Wisconsin’s 1849 law banning abortion, which passed before women could vote.

“Tim Michels wants to drag Wisconsin back to a time before women could vote by backing an extreme abortion ban without exceptions for rape or incest,” said Alliance for Common Sense Spokesperson Christina Amestoy. “His radical plan to punish women and throw abortion providers in jail proves Michels’ agenda is dangerous for Wisconsin.”

See below for the full transcript of the thirty-second video:

Narrator: Long before women could vote, Wisconsin politicians wrote a law that banned abortion and jailed doctors who performed them.

Tim Michels: The 1849 law is an exact mirror of my position.

Narrator: Tim Michels would ban abortion, even in cases of rape or incest, and send doctors to jail for performing them.

It’s not 1849 anymore — and while we might not have been able to vote back then, we sure can now.
