After months of a chaotic GOP primary — surprise, surprise — Wisconsin Republicans failed to come together and endorse a candidate for governor at their state convention this weekend, guaranteeing three more months of infighting and racing to the right in the primary.
In the months leading up to the convention, candidates Rebecca Kleefisch, Tim Michels, Kevin Nicholson, and Tim Ramthun proved they’re willing to do and say anything to win over GOP voters — no matter how radical, extreme, or out-of-touch it is.
All of the candidates have embraced conspiracy theories about the election, vowed to sign voter suppression laws, and support banning most abortions in Wisconsin.
“After their party’s embarrassing failure to choose any of the radical Republicans running for governor to endorse, the candidates in the race will continue to pander to the far-right fringes of the GOP — just as they’ve done since day one,” said DGA Senior Communications Advisor Christina Amestoy. “Gov. Evers, on the other hand, continues to fight for all Wisconsinites, and families, teachers, small business owners, and first responders from across the state stand united behind Gov. Evers.”
