MAPLE BLUFF, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is investigating an officer involved critical incident in the Village of Maple Bluff, Wis. that occurred on the morning of Sunday, November 20, 2022.

At approximately 9:07 a.m., a Maple Bluff Police Officer attempted to stop a vehicle for traffic violations. The vehicle did not stop and after a short pursuit, the vehicle crashed into a tree.  The driver of the vehicle ran on foot while three passengers remained at the scene. Officers found the driver a short time later.  The driver and three passengers were all transported to a local hospital where the driver was later pronounced deceased.

No law enforcement personnel were injured during the incident.

The involved officer has been placed on administrative assignment.

DCI is leading this investigation and is assisted by McFarland Police Department, Madison Police Department, Dane County Sheriff’s Office, DCI Crime Response Specialist, Wisconsin State Patrol, and Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office. All involved law enforcement are fully cooperating with DCI during this investigation.

DCI is continuing to review evidence and determine the facts of this incident and will turn over investigative reports to the Dane County District Attorney.
