FAYETTE, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will adjust open hours beginning Sept. 1 at the Yellowstone Shooting Range, mirroring operation hours at other state-owned ranges while reducing early morning and evening noise impacts.

The new hours for the range, located on County F in La Fayette County, will be:

  • 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Wednesday through Monday from March 13 – Nov. 6.
  • 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Wednesday through Monday, from Nov. 7 – March 12, to accommodate daylight savings time.
  • The range will continue to be closed every Tuesday as it is now.

The operating time changes are the same as other high-use shooting ranges, such as the ranges in Columbia and Waushara counties.

“We want to continue to support safe shooting opportunities for the users while also minimizing the impact of noise during early morning and evening hours for residents near the facilities,” said Bob Nack, DNR Recruitment, Retention and Reactivation Team Supervisor.

The DNR has future plans to install an automated gate to open and to close at specific times.
