DNC Chair Jaime Harrison issued the following statement in response to Republican legislation to pass a national abortion ban:

“If Republicans gain control, they will try to pass a national abortion ban, following extreme bans Republicans have implemented across the country with no exceptions for rape or incest. That’s the Republican agenda.”

Don’t just take it from us — Republicans have repeatedly made clear they want to pass a national abortion ban.

Alice Ollstein, Politico: “NEW: Senate Republicans led by [Lindsey Graham] are introducing a national ban on abortions later in pregnancy tomorrow.”

Edward-Isaac Dovere, CNN: “As some Republicans try to downplay abortion as an issue for the midterms, Lindsey Graham introduces a bill to do exactly what Democrats have been warning voters that Republicans will try to do if they get into power in November.”

The Hill: “McConnell says national abortion ban ‘possible’”

HuffPost: “GOP Senate Candidate Blake Masters Embraces National Abortion Ban”

Herschel Walker: “There’s not a national ban on abortion right now and I think that’s a problem.”

Republicans across the country have already passed extreme abortion bans with no exceptions for rape, incest, or the mother’s life.

NPR: “[The Texas abortion ban] took effect last fall and relies not on the government but on private citizens to enforce. Opponents have couched it in terms like the ‘vigilante abortion law’ or ‘bounty hunter law.’

That’s because the law incentivizes citizens with a cash ‘bounty’ if they succeed in suing anyone who has helped a person get an illegal abortion.”

Business Insider: “A bill introduced last year in North Carolina… would both define abortion as first-degree murder as well as authorize the use of deadly force to stop someone from terminating a pregnancy.”

Susan B. Anthony, the group spearheading this legislation, is an anti-choice group advocating to “end abortion.”

Axios: “The president of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America told Axios on Friday that in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade, her group will work to restrict abortion ‘in every state and in every legislature, including the Congress.’”

Susan B. Anthony List: “SBA Pro-Life America’s mission is to end abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.”
