MADISON, Wis. — With gas prices rising in Wisconsin and across the country, Governor Tony Evers joined five other governors yesterday in urging the United States Congress to suspend the federal gas tax through the end of the year.

Gov. Evers knows that while Wisconsin’s economy is stronger than it was before he took office, families are still struggling with rising costs. During his first term, the governor has signed historic tax relief for small businesses and delivered a 15 percent income tax cut for working families.

While Gov. Evers was taking action on rising gas prices yesterday, Republican leaders spent the day gaveling in and out of the special session Gov. Evers called to utilize the state’s record-breaking budget surplus to address rising costs, expand child care opportunities, and improve education quality.
