Four weeks before Election Day, the Family Friendly Action PAC (FFA PAC) launched a storybook highlighting the role kitchen table economic issues are playing for voters in Wisconsin and other battleground states and districts, and the candidates they trust to work to bring down the cost of child care, elder care and prescription drugs and pass paid family and medical leave.  In Wisconsin, FFA PAC has already knocked over 125,000 doors, and last week, launched a $1.5 million statewide advertising campaign, calling out Sen. Ron Johnson’s support for a nationwide abortion ban and highlighting Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes’ commitment to protecting the right to choose in Wisconsin. The story of Dana, a Wisconsin mom from Glendale and one of the voters featured in the storybook, details the financial strains working families are feeling, especially with skyrocketing price of prescription drugs:

When Dana Lacy was first diagnosed with Type I Diabetes, paying for medications and related expenses was costly, even though she did have insurance. Each pen of insulin cost $100 out of pocket, and she uses six pens of various types each month …

At this time, Dana’s family was struggling financially, and affording her prescriptions was very difficult. They had just purchased their first home and had welcomed their second child, and Dana had to put the charges for her insulin on her credit card, which was eventually maxed out…

Dana has come to view medical care as a right, although one that is not accessible for working families. This is why she is supporting Mandela Barnes in his race for Senate as she knows Barnes will prioritize issues that are important to families, such as lowering the price of prescription drugs.

“Stories like Dana’s are all too familiar in Wisconsin – working families are feeling the squeeze in today’s economy and are having to make the impossible decisions between affording care, prescription drugs, other essential expenses, and determining whether or not they can afford to take time off to care for their family or themselves,” said Brita Olsen, state director of Wisconsin Family Friendly Action PAC. “That is why we are proud to support Mandela Barnes in his race for US Senate as we know he will fight for the issues that matter most to working families, which his opponent, Ron Johnson, has proved he is unwilling to do.”
