MARINETTE, WIS. – The Navy awarded a $39 million contract modification to Fincantieri Marinette Marine yesterday for engineering and class support requirements for support of detail design and construction of Constellation-class Frigates.
The majority of this work is expected to be completed in Marinette.
In April 2020, FMM received the award to build the initial Constellation-class Frigate along with options for nine additional ships and various design and training services. The estimated total value of the Frigate contract is $5.5 billion.
The Navy exercised two options for follow-on ships, the future USS Chesapeake and USS Congress. Construction on the first-in-class frigate, the future USS Constellation, is expected to start at the end of August.
Marinette Marine continues its hiring campaign aimed at growing the workforce so the shipyard can continue building frigates into the next decade. People interested in available jobs are encouraged to visit the company’s career page at www.fincantierimarinegroup.
