Forward Latino, a non-partisan, non-profit service and advocacy organization today announces its “Mi Voto Cuenta” (My Vote Counts) Campaign that will run through the November 8, 2022 elections. A Multi-State Initiative, today’s announcement focuses on the battleground state of Wisconsin.

National President Darryl Morin stated “As the Wisconsin’s largest minority group, we are working to ensure every Latino voice is heard through their vote. A recent, non-partisan study found that Wisconsin is now the 4th hardest state in the country in which to vote. As such, we are launching our campaign to encourage eligible Hispanics to exercise their lawful right to vote here in Wisconsin and in a series of other states. In addition, we will be verifying compliance by the six (6) Wisconsin municipalities that must, by law, provide “Minority Language Assistance” which means they must provide all election materials, notices, instructions, and ballots in both English and Spanish. These municipalities include the Villages of Curtiss, Sharon, and West Milwaukee, along with the cities of Abbotsford, Arcadia and Milwaukee. The last component of our campaign will provide direct legal assistance on November 8, 2022, for anyone who feels they have been wrongly denied access to their polling place. All they need to do is call our toll-free number at (833) LAT-INO1.”

The campaign includes the following:

  • Forward Latino will be contacting over 66,000 Latinos eligible to vote in Wisconsin and provide them with information on voter registration, voting location and times as well as with required forms of photo ID to be able to vote.
  • Forward Latino will verify compliance by the six (6) municipalities that have been identified by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. Department of Justice as needing to provide minority language assistance per title 203 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. This requires these municipalities to provide bilingual assistance as well as provide all voter announcements, information, instructions and ballots in both English and Spanish.
  • On November 8, 2022, Forward Latino will provide free legal assistance to individuals who believe they have been wrongly denied access to their polling place. They can do this by calling Forward Latino’s toll-free hotline at (833) LAT-INO1 to ask questions, determine eligibility, and if required, receive legal advice to gain access to the polls if eligible.
