MADISON – With the highest inflation rate in 40 years and gas prices continuing to soar across Wisconsin, State Treasurer and candidate for U.S. Senate Sarah Godlewski is calling for the immediate suspension of the federal excise tax on gasoline.

“Wisconsin families are feeling the effects of inflation everywhere – at the grocery store, in their monthly bills, and at the gas pump – and can’t afford to keep stretching their pocketbooks,” said Sarah Godlewski. “Congress must take action to lower costs for workers and families, starting with suspending the gas tax and reinstating the extended child tax credit. It’s time for our leaders to step up and get the job done, or step aside.”

On Tuesday, Sarah urged Congress to reinstate the expanded child tax credit that lifted 45,000 Wisconsin children out of poverty, and last month, she called on Congress to break up the Build Back Better plan and pass its key pillars as separate pieces of legislation. Economists believe that the components of Build Back Better would drastically reduce the burden that rising costs are causing for working families.
