MILWAUKEE – Tonight, State Treasurer and candidate for U.S. Senate Sarah Godlewski proved why she is the best democrat to unseat Ron Johnson:
GODLEWSKI: “As the daughter of two public school teachers, my parents always said, ‘when you see something wrong, you’ve gotta stand up and you’ve gotta do something about it.’ That’s exactly what I’m doing – I’m running to defeat Ron Johnson because it’s clear he doesn’t care about our state anymore. I want to make sure we protect a woman’s right to choose and restore Roe v. Wade. I want to make sure as a working mom we have affordable child care and affordable senior care. And I want to tackle the climate crisis. I will stand up to Big Pharma and Big Oil to lower our costs. We know the number one priority is to defeat Ron Johnson. Look, polls are theoretical. I’m the only candidate on this stage that has won Ron Johnson’s county, which isn’t easy. In 2018, I’m also the only candidate that flipped and won nine Trump counties – that was more than the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Attorney General. And at the end of the day, you have to be a 72 county candidate to win. I’m ready and the woman that will defeat Ron Johnson this November.”
Voters know that beating Ron Johnson will be tough, but Sarah is no stranger to tough races:
-
Sarah has run and won two statewide campaigns
-
First, Sarah launched a campaign to stop Scott Walker’s effort to eliminate the Treasurer’s office, winning 62% of the vote in the April 2018 referendum
-
Then she ran for the office and won 51% to 47%
-
-
In her election for State Treasurer, Sarah flipped nine Trump counties
-
In 2018, Sarah won Columbia, Crawford, Door, Jackson, Kenosha, Richland, Sauk, Vernon, and Winnebago counties.
-
-
Sarah also took more of the vote share than the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Attorney General.
-
But don’t just take our word it:
-
Washington Post Opinion: Sarah Godlewski could be the best chance to rid the Senate of Ron Johnson
-
Cap Times Opinion: “…Keep an eye on Godlewski”
-
ABC 2’s Jason Zimmerman: “I think Sarah Godlewski had the best convention by far. She made a really good play on this issue because she is the only female in the race running for Senate and she really played that up… I think that really energized her, it energized her supporters. She had a huge amount of people in the audience with signs, applauding her. Obviously a good convention for her.”
